Week Three Wrap-Up

If you’ve taken me up on the challenge to memorize a verse along with each book of the New Testament, I want to recommend a resource to help:

www.scripturetyper.com

As you select verses, you can input them at this website and it will help you both learn and review your verses. I’ve been memorizing for years and this is the most amazing tool that I’ve found so far. If you like it, pass it along for others to use, too. It is totally free to use on your computer and there is an iPhone app available at a very nominal charge. I highly recommend this tool and hope you’ll check it out.

As I mentioned in the video, here are a few questions to get our discussion rolling:

How are you doing at living “on alert”?

How is your life different because of the cross?

Do you know what your Master wants you to be doing while you’re waiting for Him?

I look forward to hearing from you this week and would also love to hear if you’re memorizing a summary verse for the Gospel of Matthew and if you are, what it is!

Week Two Wrap-Up

What a great first week of discussion! I’ve enjoyed reading all the posts and interacting with many of them! I love the kind tone of the comments and the way many of you are interacting not only with the questions, but with one another.

As I mentioned in the video, I’d love it this week if you’d make a point to comment on at least one entry as well as interacting with the questions. Find one comment posted by another student that has been extremely helpful to you and let that person know!

I also want to let you know that I’m on my way to an all-church retreat for the next couple of days. I’ll have some Internet access, but “some” is a pretty generous term for the area I’ll be in. That said, if you don’t see me on the blog too much the next couple of days, know that it is because I’ll be in a wireless wasteland. 😉

Here, again, are the questions that I’d like us to interact with this week:

• What has been your biggest application point from the first half of Matthew? What have you learned that is challenging and changing the way you think or act?

• How do you feel about biblical geography? Do you find it easy or hard? If it’s hard for you, what part of it do you find difficult? If it’s easy for you, what tricks have you learned along the way that have helped you?

As always, feel free to introduce other questions or comments. Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Week One Wrap-Up

It’s great to finally be starting, isn’t it?

Now that we’re officially underway I hope you’ll be bold and jump right into the conversation. Ground rules here are that we will all err on the side of grace, so don’t be worried about other people misunderstanding you and saying something unkind in return. That’s a legitimate concern in online communication, but I’m committed to keeping this a safe place for conversation. That said, in all of the studies that I’ve done—and I think I’m on number seven—we’ve pulled down a grand total of one cranky post. I think that’s a pretty good track record.

I have been beyond blessed by the online Bible study communities I’ve been a part of over the years and expect no less from this one, so jump in knowing that is the history and the expectation.

As I mentioned in the video, I’d love for you to interact with either or both of the following questions:

• How has studying the Old Testament helped you as you’ve studied the New Testament?

• How do you incorporate Bible reading into your everyday life?

Again, if you have other questions or comments, bring ’em on! I can’t wait to start the dialogue!

Introduction Video

As I mentioned in the video, I’ll send out an e-mail each week (starting on June 7) when a new wrap-up video posts. Watch the video at your convenience after you’ve completed your lesson for the week and then join in on the discussion. If you fall behind, don’t worry about it. Just hit your pace and keep moving forward. Some people will finish in 10 weeks while others will take longer. This study will flex to summer vacations, out-of-town guests, or whatever else comes your way!

I look forward to starting our discussion later this week, but in the meantime, I’d love to know what your expectations are for our time together!

Blessings,

pam 🙂

Welcome to Cookies New Testament!

I’m so excited to be studying with you this summer! One of my great passions is helping people see how God’s Word fits together from beginning to end so going from the beginning of Matthew to the end of Revelation in 10 weeks will be sweet indeed.

Don’t let the volume of material scare you off. This is a flexible study, so the homework will flex to meet your pace of life. Add to that I’m a huge fan of audio Bibles and redeeming the time through our ears which will help make the New Testament in 10 weeks so much more accessible and doable!

In case you’re new to online study, I’ve explained below the basics of how our online class will work. Can’t wait to get started!

Many blessings,

pam

The Basics:
Register any time. Purchase the book. Watch the Intro video. (If you’re an early-adopter, you’re going to have to wait a couple of days on this!)

We’ll have a couple of simple questions for you to interact with, mainly so you can try out “posting.” (Hey, if you want to try out posting right now, knock yourself out and put your home state or country in the comment section by scrolling down and clicking on “Leave a reply”!)

Weekly:
• Each week complete your Lesson prior to watching the Wrap-Up Video for the Lesson.

• Watch for an e-mail notifying you that the Wrap-Up Video has posted and click through to view at your convenience.

• After you watch the Wrap-Up Video, post your comments and responses on the blog wall right below the video.

It’s that simple!

Blog Posting Tips:
• Don’t say anything you wouldn’t want someone to say to you.

• Don’t post anything that might embarrass your family or friends. We want this to be a safe place where we can share authentically but it is still a public forum.

• Always err on the side of grace.

This is the seventh online study that I’ve led. During that time we’ve had to delete a grand total of one cranky post but we’ve had a myriad of thoughtful and uplifting commenters. I’m very encouraged by this track record and expect nothing less from our time together. Still, we want to reiterate the need for grace because it only takes one unkind poster to poison the pot and scare others off.
